my story
A Lifetime of Hidden Trauma
At nine years old (between the 3rd and 4th grades), I was sexually assaulted by an older boy while on a neighborhood sleepover. I kept that secret hidden away and continued to live my life as if everything was normal … until it wasn’t. Fast forward to age 52, when I suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car accident involving alcohol. The floodgates holding back my demons were finally opened. Thus, began a serious downward spiral of intense mood swings, anger, resentment, sleep deprivation, and overspending. I knew something had to give. After selling our family business and the real possibility of losing my family hanging in the balance, I finally realized I had to do something. My healing journey began with a simple phone call to a crisis center hotline. It was then I joined the ranks of other trauma survivors.
Leaders are born from the fire.
Trauma takes no prisoners. In fact, most people have been affected by at least one traumatic event in their lives, some multiple times. The real battle to living a fulfilled life is waged in our own minds. It’s a daily struggle for those affected by trauma. We just need someone to show us how to unlock our cells, our brain cells and the self-imposed cells that keep us from moving forward, from getting past our past.
Join me, join us and the other trauma survivors now living fulfilled lives.
All humans have a common bond; they are called traumas. They take no prisoners and unless they are dealt with properly, they continue to hold us back from living fulfilled lives. Putting your personal story out there is a risk. Yet, as we grow older, we see that everything in life has some risk involved. Risk makes life worth living. Accepting risk helps us to live our own purpose.
With my life spinning out of control and on the verge of losing everything I had worked so hard to attain, I called a crisis hotline. That was the start of my healing. My purpose is to help others.
What broken pieces are holding you back? What are your dreams? I want all of you reading this to know that whatever trauma you’ve experienced and whatever personal struggles you are having because of it, you’re not alone. You are never alone.
Please believe me, your fight to heal, to find your purpose, to experience fulfillment in your life is well worth the fight. Keep going. I and many others support you.
